It's that time of the year when most of the Delhi traffic takes a turn and moves towards Greater Noida. Suddenly everyone becomes automobile fanatics and a walking encyclopedia of auto industry.
So, what is special about this one week? This is a week when a common person, a middle class dream can get up and close with his wet dreams. This is a week when he can get a peek into all the exotic automobiles which he has seen only in magazines, TV, internet or in his dreams.
But is it what we all think it is? or is it something more? I call it a week of chaos. You may ask why? Let me explain:
Let's talk in detail now.
Distance: Fact is, Pragati Maidan in Delhi was the perfect location for the expo. It's well connected by Metro, Bus, Auto/Taxis and has decent place for parking. It is still manageable for people living in and around noida, east delhi or south delhi but the ones coming from Gurgaon, west delhi or dwarka, it's just too far.
Traffic: Mornings are fine but coming back in evening from the venue can prove to be the worst of the worst nightmares you ever had. Once you leave Greater Noida behind, Traffic snarls will be ready to welcome you right from Mahamaya Flyover, Noida to wherever your destination is. Icing on the cake will be the supreme sense of lanes which we north Indians possess. Driving in such conditions can in itself be very well called as Superpowers. If walking all day long at the expo does't tire you, this traffic will definitely kill you.
Glamour: One thing we all have to accept is that the auto expo is a window to the beauty of the world. Be it automobiles or the models from across the globe. They really have the strength of vibranium. Else, how could they survive the glares and awkward reactions from public all day long? Not to forget that they have to stand for long hours and carry a charming smile all the time. Without these lovely ladies, auto expo would surely lose most of its charm. People really need to understand that they need to respect and behave like gentlemen, for you are not only leaving a negative impression of yourself but of the country too.
Free Goodies: Now if you want to see the most well dressed people, the most soft spoken souls turn into wrestlers and high pitched boars then free goodies section of any booth is the place for you. The greed of getting free posters, diaries, calendars can make people do what they can't even believe that they are capable of doing. They will rough up, push you, drag you away, shout their lungs out, all for free stuff. They will forget that there are ladies around, they forget about elderly, they forget every etiquette and getting the free stuff becomes the sole goal of their lives. If you think only the general public behaves like this then I would like to correct you. The brigade of so called journalists, covering the special media days is even worse. I've seen torn jackets, suits, blood and broken cameras for the heavenly free gifts. For any sane soul, this can leave a haunting memory for years.
But all is not gloom and doom at the expo, It does offer what it promises. An amazing show with multiple live performances, adventure shows, new launches, supercars, superbikes and an experience which will leave it's mark for a long time. overall, wishing and hoping that the next expo will be better, free goodies will be stopped and more transportation options will be available. Till then enjoy the album and safe driving.
